Excerpt from my book “WRECKED”

To not have your suffering recognized is a form of violent neglect.  Until recently I couldn’t handle silence.  I had to have some sort of white noise. To drown out those thoughts that squiggle to the surface.

But now I crave silence. The neglected memories no longer lay dormant in the back cages of my mind. I’ve freed them. But they still hang around. Laying their permeable surfaces open to new memories. In a interfusion of past and present. Creating something new in me. Like the blend of my art and my writing. Writing preexisted my art, but again I neglected it for a solid twenty years.  Like my hometown, I loved it-but I left it. My friends, I loved them-but I left them. My writing-I loved them, but I left them. My house, the land-I loved it but I left it.  Self protection I suppose. To leave those things, and people that were bound not by their will to my  virulent past; was not only self-protection but temporary salvation.

My painting of the woman floating in the water brings its exquisite silence almost tangible upon viewing. Part of me floats in the water with her. Hauntingly still. Waiting.

After the epic battle of my past and my present, the old me and the new have found a way to coexist. I had no idea that there was room. If there’s room, then there’s room for me to be a mother, wife, writer, artist, sister and often daughter.

All these years the guilt I carried like an albatross carries little footing. It barely holds on as I kick it off my foot every morning.  “WRECKED”©️

This painting was the one that threw me into the ER with a TIA, my bad though. I was sealing the gold leaf with bare hands. Had it ALL over my hands for hours. I was afraid to touch it, but TODAY I doubled gloved it up and finalized the fireplace. Side note my memoir should be done by Christmas then on to find a publisher.

Finalized #4 of WRECKED and using the same heated transparent tones added into the big figurative “Rebirth”. The sun WAS about then disappeared again 😫

Whited out and repositioned her arms/hands. They’re hard to see here but the hands will have great definition. Rework of her stature 5ft almost to size #rework

Rework of “Had To” #3 of WRECKED

4ft x4ft “Had To” #3 in •WRECKED• series . I was almost done but yesterday I restructured her skin. I wanted her linesto be more muted, so I blended a transparent layer all over around her skin. She’s in water, I didn’t paint prominent reflective lines as I wanted an eerie morose beauty to arose from the piece. This piece is EXTREMELY hard to photograph as it has so many transparent layers that just can’t quite get captured on camera. I added more depth to her dress as well as the background. #art #painting #anatomystudy #interiordesign #artofinstagram #figurativeart #figurepainting #abstractart #artgallery #decor #artist #arte #losangeles #london #japan #ladyinthelake

Almost done with 48x48

48x48 Lady in the Lake (not the title) is almost done.

Started a big New one 4ftx5ft. I’m going to add in geometric elements to this one as well as some neon. Her face is raw, no detail. Look closely there’s more than a woman’s face. This one is going to be a bit of a story

Work on my lady in the lake

48x48, Adding in the blue tones and I grazed the texture with a hint of light grey to pop the texture. Sculpting her arm, hand and chest next. Then I’ll add subtle  eerie highlights all over. This is 4ft

quick start to #5 of the Fire Series, 48x36 Pic one is the sketch and I set it with white paint since I used vine charcoal which dusts of easily. Just the start, this one is going to be slight eerie-she’ll be holding fire with a constant look on her face. I’m going to do realistic detail to her hand. I’ve had a plan on this one and the next-which I just picked up a BIG 60x48 canvas today for the next. I’m really excited about this one #

When I paint hair or fabric (layered fabric) I used a long round tip brush with heavy body paint/gloss medium. Thin the paint out so that the long swipe of the brush can move smoothly. Oh her dress I had a spray bottle of water. After each swipe I would spray then swipe the brushwork with my fingers. I used a veridian green mixed with black then went back over with a sheer pale blue for highlights. Her hair since she’s laying down surrounded by glowing fire her hair shouldn’t be one hair color. Adding in heated tones that I premixed days ago, based on magenta, pyrole red, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and green gold bring out the glow. (Link in bio for backstory to Fire Series) Play with your mixtures to get your desired hues. I get my brushes (weekly lately) at Art Supply Warehousein Westminster

I rarely post my old ones. But this 60x48 big abstract hangs in my bedroom. It’s still for sale and I’ve had offers but haven’t taken them because it has always brought me a peaceful feeling. So if I just part with it, it’s going to be for what I deem as a worthy amount. It’s an original not a print. I don’t have many left from when I was strictly abstract. #peacefulart #greenart #greenpainting

Day 3, started painting her face which is extremely difficult due to the immense texture from the painting beneath it

IMG_2046.JPG

I had to sculpt the koi with gel medium since there’s Pumice medium all over. Then I bled in some red. Setting with heat so the fish don’t get damaged. Tomorrow I’ll started painting over the koi with transparent hues. I want to keep this one edgy, visceral and abstract. #koifish #koilovers #koiart #abstractpainting #abstractart #art #largescaleart #redart #red #redpainting #edgy #artofinstagram #artwork #gallery #losangeles #interiordesign #japan #newyork #longbeach #highfluidacrylics #textureart

I’m seeing red. Don’t think you’ll see my face again. Don’t have much time for sympathy. ‘cause it never happened to me. -lyrics by Unwritten Law....

It was a red day for me. So this big boy is HEAVY. It’s an old one which has a ton of pumice stone medium mixed in. Probably weighs 10lbs. Not sure what I’ll do next. It’ll come to me-always does.
